Castleblayney

Introduction

Castleblayney is the third largest town in the county and serves as a market centre for its rural hinterland. New residential and commercial developments have strengthened the town’s economic base in recent years.

The town is situated on the shores of the impressive Lough Muckno Leisure Park, a resource used for angling, water sports, walking, picnics, golfing and festivals.

Access

Castleblayney is located along the N2 Dublin-Derry national road and is linked to Dundalk, the gateway for the North East region by the N53 national road.

Business Space

Castleblayney has 69 hectares of lands zoned for Industry & Employment. Land parcels have been included to the northern and western ends of the town and offer ease of access on to the town’s N2 bypass. Other commercial opportunities exist throughout the town, including serviced industrial buildings and sites along the N2 Monaghan Road and at Bog Road.

The Enterprise Centre located within the town on the N2 Dublin Road provides 17 workspace units varying in size from 17 sq. m. to 70 sq. m. for developing and fledging businesses.

Information and Communications Technology

Project Kelvin is also available in the town which offers dedicated Ethernet at all speeds, including 10G LanPhy, which allows for 10.3215 gigabits of capacity. The cable has the ability to directly and securely connect to Canada, US, UK and mainland Europe.

Water/Wastewater services

Castleblayney has ample provision for water supply and treatment. The current demand for drinking water for the Lough Egish / Castleblayney / Ballybay area is 4,200 m³/day with a treatment capacity of 8,000 m³/day.

The town’s wastewater treatment plant has a plant design of 12,960 population equivalent (P.E.) and is currently catering for 5,692 P.E.

Education and Skills

The town and surrounding area is well served by a network of pre-schools and primary schools and has two secondary schools located within the town offering a high quality education. The Castleblayney Enterprise Centre provides training courses for business and SMEs.

Dundalk Institute of Technology (DkIT) the third level institution for the region is located around half an hour’s drive from Castleblayney. The town is also accessible to a range of other third level institutions, both north and south of the border.

The town is supported by one hotel that offers conferencing and leisure facilities, the Glencarn. The Iontas resource centre also offers conference and training facilities, along with a gallery and theatre. Castleblayney Enterprise Centre also offers conference, meeting and training facilities. A range of support services are provided within the town including financial, legal and IT.

Castleblayney is well catered for with recreational activities including Concra Wood 18-hole golf club, theatre, bowling alley, water sports and walking at Lough Muckno. Key annual festivals in the town include Muckno Mania Festival and Castleblayney Drama Festival, which are well supported throughout the region.
