Monaghan is strengthening its position as a centre for innovation with the development of BioConnect, a dedicated food, agri and biotechnology hub designed to support research, collaboration and business growth across the agri-food and biotechnology sectors.
Located on the outskirts of Monaghan Town on the Armagh Road, the state-of-the-art facility brings together industry, academia and enterprise partners to accelerate the development of new products, technologies and sustainable solutions. The centre has been developed through a strong partnership involving Monaghan County Council, Enterprise Ireland, leading agri-food companies including Monaghan Mushrooms, Lakeland Dairies, Manor Farm and Silver Hill Foods, alongside educational and research institutions from across the region including; Queen’s University Belfast, Dundalk IT and ATU.
BioConnect’s purpose is to help businesses access specialist expertise, research facilities and collaborative opportunities that can drive innovation and improve competitiveness. By connecting companies with researchers and emerging talent, the centre aims to turn ideas into commercial opportunities while supporting the growth of Ireland’s bioeconomy.
The impact of BioConnect is expected to extend far beyond the facility itself. It will provide a platform for innovation-led job creation, attract investment, support sustainable business practices and help companies unlock greater value from waste resources. As global demand for sustainable food production and biotechnology solutions continues to grow, BioConnect positions Monaghan at the forefront of an increasingly important sector.
More than just a research centre, BioConnect represents a long-term investment in the county’s economic future, creating opportunities for businesses, entrepreneurs and skilled professionals while reinforcing Monaghan’s reputation as a leader in agri-food innovation.
