€26.2 million Regeneration Project set to transform Monaghan Town

Monaghan County Council welcomes the granting of planning approval by An Bord Pleanála for the South Dublin Street and Backlands Regeneration Project in Monaghan Town; a transformative initiative aimed at revitalising the heart of the town centre.

The project will see the creation of a new urban quarter through land assembly, infrastructure upgrades, and high-quality public realm improvements. The regeneration will breathe new life into the existing urban area, enabling sustainable development, attracting investment, and creating jobs.

A total of €13.1 million in funding has been secured from the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund (URDF), with matching support from Monaghan County Council.

Work will now progress on detailed designs and tender preparation. Property acquisition will continue, with a Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) expected to be advanced in 2025. This project is a key part of the Council’s commitment to enhancing town centres and supporting long-term economic growth.
