Monaghan Electrical part of the M. E. Group, owned by businessman Michael Treanor, recently announced the purchase of the former Monaghan Town Co-Op site on the outskirts of Monaghan town, marking a significant step in the company’s long-term expansion plans.
Monaghan Electrical Wholesaler Ltd, established in 1983, has been a significant player in the electrical wholesale industry in Ireland for decades. Employing over 100 staff, it specialises in a wide range of electrical products and services, growing steadily from a small local electrical supplier into a trusted provider for electricians, contractors and domestic goods throughout Ireland.
The company has built a strong reputation for customer service, technical expertise, extensive stock range, and reliability within the trade, with bases in Carrickmacross, Cavan town and its current headquarters operating from Plantation Road in Monaghan.
As the business continues to develop it has outgrown its existing premises in Monaghan town, making the acquisition of the Co-Op site ideal for relocation, providing the space required to support future growth plans.
To mark the acquisition, Monaghan Electrical will host a large Milwaukee Tools sale on Tuesday, 17 February, welcoming customers to the site and providing an opportunity to engage with the business at its future home. The event will feature special offers on Milwaukee tools and accessories and is expected to attract strong interest from across the region.
Speaking about the purchase, Michael said the investment reflects confidence in Monaghan Town and a commitment to growing the business locally, commenting:
“I remember my father doing business over the years in the Co-Op as a local farmer and its importance to the community at that time. Our ambition is to continue the legacy and significance of the site for future generations”.
The motivation behind the purchase highlights how established local enterprises can play a pivotal role in bringing new life to landmark buildings while continuing to support the wider town-centre economy.
Securing the Co-Op site gives Monaghan Electrical the opportunity to develop a larger, more accessible premises that can support expanded operations and improved customer experience. The move represents a strategic investment designed to meet growing demand across both trade and retail markets.
